John joined Freemasonry in March 1979 in The Foxhall Lodge which meet at The Masonic Hall Poulton le Fylde.

Within a year he was appointed as a Steward of the Lodge and since that time has not had a year when he did not hold some position in the Lodge.

In November 1990 he was elected as the Worshipful Master of the Lodge within days of his successor being installed in November 1991 John underwent his quadruple bye pass operation. However he only missed one meeting then continued with his duties as Immediate Past Master. After finishing that year he took up the position of Assistant Director of Ceremonies and then Director of Ceremonies, a position he then held for some ten years till he decided to resign this position in order for Younger and Newer ideas to be put forward and also to have a bit of a break but this coincided with the Lodge needing a secretary so he took on that position which again he held for a number of years.

On relinquishing the position of Secretary he reverted to being a Steward of the Lodge and remains as such to this time, frequently being asked to ‘Stand In’ for any officer of the lodge who is unable to attend. He has received two promotions to the positions of Past Provincial Grand Officer in recognition of his dedication to freemasonry and is now the second senior subscribing member of The Foxhall Lodge
